Steps to Becoming a Med Tech in Pennsylvania

2 minute read

In an ever-growing healthcare field, the need for skilled and caring Med Tech personnel is greater than ever. As a result, there is a lot of demand for the services and training programs for med techs at Cynamed.

It’s our mission to help aspiring applicants on their way to becoming Med Techs, specifically in the assisted living communities of Pennsylvania. And it goes without saying that we are 100% there to help them succeed.

What Does a Med Tech Do in an Assisted Living Facility?

Well, their main job is to assist nurses and doctors. Med Tech resources at CynaMed are considered Lead Aides. They assist with daily activities, record and monitor vital signs, and assist with mobility and basic care. They also participate in care planning, confer with doctors and nurses, and are the ones family and friends rely on to care for their loved ones.

Med Techs play a vital role in providing seniors with the care they need. As medical technologies have advanced and healthcare becomes more complex, medical technicians have become increasingly essential for the well-being of residents at assisted living facilities.

How Do You Become a Med Tech?

At Cynamed, we consider a big heart the most important qualification for anyone who wants to pursue an important and rewarding med tech career. Given that your heart qualifies, here are the simple steps to take.

Basic Qualifications

To start, the basic qualifications are similar to those in most jobs. You must be at least 18 years old and have your high school diploma or G.E.D. In addition, you need to be fluent in English. Lastly, you will need to pass a background check.

State Certifications

You must obtain a certification from your state. Overall, each state is different, and certain states require becoming a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). So, make sure to properly research your state qualifications.

Specifically, Pennsylvania offers a med tech training and certification program. This program provides unlicensed medical staff the opportunity to properly administer medications. It can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to receive the certification.

Exams

You must pass your state’s licensing exam. Once you pass your state licensing exam, you can begin looking for med tech jobs. Once you become a Med Tech and find a job, note how to keep your certification active in the state of Pennsylvania.

You must be observed every 6 months by an authorized PA State Med Tech Trainer. CynaMed has that resource on staff. Visit the Office of Developmental Programming website for more information!
