Becoming a nurse of any kind is not an easy path. It takes time, dedication, and sacrifice. Many people choose to start as an LPN or a CNA before becoming an RN. This allows them to start working as a nurse earlier. This can be your career, or you can use these positions as a stepping stone to becoming a registered nurse. If you choose to start as an LPN or a CNA, it’s possible to become a registered nurse. However, it will take time.
How to Become an RN from a CNA
Going from CNA to RN takes a few extra years of education depending on which path you choose. Most of the options will help you get a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Many hospitals prefer or require nurses with a BSN when hiring. Those with bachelors are also more likely to make a higher salary than other nurses.
In the general sense, here’s how to become an RN from a CNA.

Going the traditional route, it will take about four years to get your bachelor’s.

How to Switch from an LPN to a Registered Nurse
LPN to RN courses are called bridge programs. This is because they bridge the gap in education between the two positions. They teach nursing theory, pharmacology, and patient care methods. You might have to take some general education courses if you don’t have those credits yet. Just like with CNA to RN, LPNs can choose to get their associate’s of nursing or their BSN.
To become an RN from an LPN, an associate’s degree will take between one and two years. The BSN, on the other hand, can take between two and three years. It all depends on how many general education courses you need to catch up on before you start the bridge program.
