What Can We Expect from the Future of Nursing?

2 minute read

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, all kinds of changes are being made to the industry. Many companies must learn to adjust to this new way of living, especially within the nursing field. Patient care is also changing significantly due to the increase in COVID cases. To provide optimal patient care, hospitals must evolve and learn how to cope with an influx of patients and illnesses. Technology is also quickly changing and improving with the times. Nurses must learn to adapt and overcome different challenges to remain in the healthcare field and care for others.

Nurse Practitioner Demographics

The demographic of nurses has recently seen sporadic change over the past few years. However, with the new demand for nurses, Salaries and job opportunities are significantly increasing. As shared by Nursing World, The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects nursing opportunities in employment to rise to 194,500 between 2020 and 2030, ultimately growing by 9%.

Meanwhile, retirements are also rising due to the pandemic’s after-effects for many nurse practitioners. 34% of nurses are expecting to leave their jobs by the end of 2022, according to Fierce Healthcare. With burnout causing a significant impact on nurses worldwide, many are also deciding to go to their employers because of lower pay.

Taking Leads as a Registered Nurse

Many nurses worldwide are showing a change in values. Earlier, professionals were happy to contribute years of service to a single company. Today, nurses seek freedom of choice and flexible work schedules. In healthcare, thousands of nurses are overworked with little sleep.

New Age of Technology

Computers and technology have been advancing as people learn to adapt to a changing world. Examples of these advances have been seen, such as using AI (artificial intelligence). For instance, artificial Intelligence has been used to eliminate human error and offer precise service to patients.

Accepting Change

Once you have grown accustomed to a specific routine, it is difficult to face new changes. The pandemic phase cast a lot of new challenges for nurses and healthcare workers alike. RNs must accept that things will never be the same as they were, but it isn’t necessarily bad. Healthcare workers have been at the forefront of humankind and its well-being for a long time. Eventually, items will need to change and improve to cater to the evolving planet earth.
