Do You Have To Take A Med Tech Class Before the Exam?

A certified medication tech is a medical professional with the authority to dispense drugs to patients in various health facilities. Med tech certification allows you to work in hospitals and assisted living facilities. You can also work in correctional homes and intermediate care institutions. Med techs also double as certified nursing assistants (CNA) and assist with direct patient care. This includes activities of daily living (ADL).

Med Tech Certification: How It Works

Want to become a certified med tech? You must take med tech classes to become an eligible candidate for a job in a healthcare facility.

To start your path to becoming a med tech, you must first have a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 18 years of age. Next, you must become a certified nurse assistant (CNA) to apply for a med tech training program. This certification typically takes 6-12 weeks to complete.

Once you’ve completed the CNA program and received your certification, you are eligible to enroll in med tech classes to work toward certification. This typically takes between 4-6 months to complete. In Pennsylvania, med techs students need to pass an examination to get their Certified Medication Aide (CMA) license. Once they receive this license, they have permission to administer medication in any facility.
