PA License RenewalÂ
To renew your license in Pennsylvania, plan ahead. Nurses are permitted to complete their renewal process between 30 and 60 days prior to expiration. However, waiting until the last minute can cause delays, rendering you unable to legally provide care for patients. You’ll need to upload the required documentation to complete the renewal process and pay a $122 renewal fee.
PA Nursing Board RequirementsÂ
As a nurse, it’s beneficial to participate in continuing education—even above and beyond the PA nursing board requirements. It keeps nurses up-to-date on the latest advances in care and treatment. Additionally, CEs create opportunities to learn about other areas of nursing that might pique their interest. All PA RNs must complete 30 hours of continuing education for their license renewal. There is a vast library of continuing education courses available online, many are offered for free through various accredited organizations. Of the 30 required hours, two must meet the Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting requirements. All nurses are responsible for keeping personal records of the continuing education hours they complete. The Pennsylvania Board of Nursing and the affiliated organization, Nursing CE Central, recommend keeping these records for a minimum of three renewal cycles in the event of an audit.
